My Zumba story

Photo of me - Pawel Wodkowski - Zumba Instructor from Poland, living in Australia, offering free Zumba classes in Sydney

Hello, I'm Pawel. I am certified in Zumba, Zumba Toning, Zumba Gold, and Strong Nation.

I’ve been dancing Zumba since 2018. It started with a silly bet at the gym and ended with a dancing adventure. When people ask me why I became an instructor, I joke that I wanted to control the playlist. That’s actually true.

Zumba is my passion that I enjoy outside of my nine-to-five job. It is the fun part of my life, but I still make sure to give it my full attention and commitment. I regularly attend Zumba training for both the enjoyment and to learn new moves from some really talented people out there.

My Zumba playlist is full of energetic Latin tunes – you can be sure there will be lots of Salsa, Reggaeton, and Brazillian Funk. My secret lies in mixing great classics and fresh songs with a queer twist from time to time.

FAQ

What is Zumba?

Zumba is a popular fitness workout that combines elements of dance and aerobics. For more than 20 years, millions of people have been improving their fitness by dancing Zumba. The dance routines in Zumba are based on simple dance steps and basic Latin rhythms – merengue, salsa, cumbia, and reggeaton. Other rhythms are also often used, such as soca, samba, flamenco, tango or afrobeat. During Zumba fitness classes, we play fast and slower songs alternately. This helps to stimulate the body to burn fat.

I'm not in shape lately, can I come to Zumba?

Absolutely! In Zumba classes, it’s up to you to decide at what intensity you dance. ps. Regular participation in Zumba will definitely keep you in shape, you won’t feel the strain at all, while having a great time to the rhythm of hot Latin beats.

How do you dance Zumba?

In Zumba classes, we don’t learn choreography step by step. Each song is different, based on the rhythm and its core moves. We start with basic steps and then modify them for more intensity or styling. The instructor will help you by cueing, signaling the type of step, the direction, and the number of repetitions. It’s worth attending a couple of classes with an instructor to catch the vibe and the style of cueing. The best news is that you will become more confident with choreography from class to class.

What songs do you do at Zumba?

Zumba classes mix original Latin songs by Zumba and fresh and classic international hits. My playlist features a lot of Salsa, Reggeaton, and Brazilian Funk, with a pop and queer twist. The songs will be repeated from class to class, with new songs regularly introduced. But, of course, we also come back to old Zumba hits, so the classes are always fun and never dull. You can taste my musical vibe on the playlists available on Spotify and Apple Music. What are the effects of Zumba?

What are the effects of dancing Zumba?

Zumba cares for the body and soul! Regular exercise in Zumba Fitness classes will improve your physical condition. Combined with a proper diet, it will help you eliminate unnecessary kilograms. During a one-hour session, you will burn about 500-600 kcal. Optimally, Zumba is danced at around 70-75% of your maximum heart rate, which is ideal for reducing fat and sculpting. Come to Zumba after a hard day at work to reduce stress and forget about the world. Zumba is all about energetic songs, lots of smiles, and great people supporting each other’s goals.

What kind of shoes should I wear to a Zumba class?

For Zumba classes, we recommend comfortable all-sport fitness shoes – such as those for aerobics. Avoid specially shaped shoes for specific sports, such as running shoes, which are designed to move straight and not sideways.

How many breaks are there during Zumba class?

During hour-long classes, there are one or two breaks in the middle. During longer ones – more accordingly. If you need extra rest, you can always take a short water break between songs and join the group when you are ready.

Can a non-dancer join a Zumba class?

Of course! Zumba routines consist of simple, repetitive steps. Zumba is not about dance technique, Zumba is all about having fun as we jump and bend our bodies to the rhythm of the music.

Whether you’re looking to get in shape, relieve stress, or just have a great time, my Zumba classes in Sydney have something for everyone.
